Roberto Airaudi ("Falco"), the spiritual leader of Damanhur, responded to questions during the ValdiChy Spring Conference at Damanhur in April 2004.
QUESTION: Something that has struck me in reading the various visions about ValdiChy by Damanhurians is that many have a common thought, with many elements similar to Damanhur’s thought, to the art, to a certain quality of relationship. I ask you: I would like to understand better what’s the difference in the mission of these people that are coming closer to Damanhur. What can the ValdiChy project do that Damanhur can’t do? FALCO Damanhur is a project that started more than twenty years ago and that now has reached a certain balance, that has it’s own tracks upon which it runs to reach and realize its project. We want a project like the ValdiChy to be something completely new; to explore new tracks and new possibilities, like the Game of life does. I insist very much on the idea of independence of this project with regard to Damanhur. I do not want it to be a rib of Damanhur but that it will be something new, as much as possible. Obviously with all the help that we can possibly offer. It’s probable that there will be possibilities of living together that we haven’t yet explored, for this reason we do not want to leave anything untried. Our way of living together works for us, it has been developed and perfected through the years. To imagine an even vaster and more expanded society that people from all over the world can participate in and not a majority of Italians like it’s happening now with us. Let’s say that it could be interesting to find other routes to explore. When one has ideals, to bring them into practical realization is never simple because one’s own ideals clash with everyday things, with the needs to survive, with the children, with the older folks. Above all Damanhur is an initiatic society, it has its own philosophy, its own vision of the world. One of them, certainly not the only one. … We need to see what each one of you wants and how many will adhere to this project. I can tell you what’s the part that’s interesting to Damanhur - for the rest you need to be the ones seeing how to do it. Damanhur’s interest is that these valleys be inhabited by a great number of people that will come from the most diverse places so that people will assess themselves and create a reciprocal solidarity based system. We will concur in some things, and do others in a different manner, just like for the Iomea group for instance. They come from France, they have bought homes, they are starting to live in this environment -with our help for what’s possible- but naturally, in absolute autonomy. That’s what’s interesting to us now, later it can all be seen, whatever type of participation, agreements,. I imagine that it’s not uniformity that wants to be created here but an ensemble of diversities. Even in the types of activities, of jobs, of specialisation I believe that something can be born, an opportunity to create companies, activities, different enterprises, thanks to the differences between people. It’s easier to do it here because Damanhur is here and it can give some support, that’s the only reason. Then, for us, there are the Synchronic Lines. Many things can be invented here more easily than in other places. But this is already part of our philosophy, and it's not necessary to agree with that. I believe that the future is in the sector of the renewable energies and especially solar energy, consequently it’s costing us a lot. In the majority of our homes the theory of the use of alternative energy has become a reality. Yet with the connections, the knowledge among all, it can be that we’ll be able more easily to find, all over the world, researchers, methods, applications, and be able to accelerate this system even more. In the next two years we want to arrive at producing as much electrical energy as Damanhur needs, so as to reach autonomy. As a matter of fact we are seeking terrains with streams to be able to use running water even more. This can be combined with gas, generating integrated systems in the boilers. There are so many things. The homes that we’ll be building in front of Damanhur Crea we plan to be served with energy that we produce. The same with the heating, which is another pilot project. Then in the next few months we intend to start building the new temple. You know, it will have a grand Concert Hall, a great Library, and things of this sort. It will be 10 times bigger than the one you’ve visited. It will have special systems to cultivate bananas beneath the roof. There is an enormous quantity of things to invent. There are our Japanese friends that have worked and are working to define parts of this project, e.g., an underground electric train to connect the various parts… It’s quite an ambitious project. This is to say that building the ValdiChy around these projects means work, technology, illumination. There is a motor that can generate forces that many can use to mutual advantage. There is a political project to get other political administrations co-ordinated with each other, in the area, so that the people of various villages can get involved, a bit like we are doing with Terrazzatura (devotional work), village by village, to enable people to directly involved even in public works or to help private citizens with no means. As far as agricultural projects go, we will begin a pilot project in the Cuceglio area, cultivating different varieties of apples because historically there were many varieties in this area, so we hope that it will be a grand possibility in the agricultural field. QUESTION As a spiritual activist I always choose to be present in the midst of people where my work could be of example and spread seeds. In my house for example I cultivate organic food, I have photovoiltaic panels etc. I ask myself if coming here to Damanhur and joining the ValdiChy project would really be something that can truly be of help to all of us. FALCO I believe that until many isolated researchers in the world – who use all their power just to survive and so to repeat the same thing infinite times- and still try to throw small or big seeds, in such a vast world, alone or few, the chances that these seeds will sprout are unfortunately small indeed. So there are brave efforts, but difficulty in getting anywhere. We cannot continue a spiritual project based only upon individuals because it’s too little. I believe that’s very important to create an environment that can be of help to everyone, with a development of a common base; then it can flower. I believe that the ValdiChy can become a favourable spot for researchers, for individuals, for the uniqueness of each one, so that it will multiply many times that what each person alone do. This is the idea. Then for us the synchronic lines multiply, spread this all over the world to create a more fertile terrain, even more welcoming to ideas, to people, to their enthusiasm. Most of all when people can turn the ideas, the dreams into practical actions. Best wishes to all. |
