Evolutionary Letter #3 from Barbara Marx Hubbard
June 12, 2006
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Evolutionary Edge!
It is clear that we have reached “Critical Mess.” Our problems cannot be resolved by doing more of the same. The dysynergy among these problems is rapidly leading to devolution. Yet, out of the crisis, even in the last few months since the awareness of global warming, there has been an increase in mass awakening. This crisis is vital for the next stage of our evolution. It is the wake up call for humanity.
Here is what I have noticed. We are entering the “Convergence Zone.” Teilhard told us that “everything that rises converges.” This means that every emerging strand of endeavor in health, education, economics, energy/environment, human development, governance, media, etc. is now, by the tendency in nature to form new whole systems, connecting in a “non-linear, exponential, interaction of innovative elements.” Nature has been self-organizing in increasing complexity for billions of years. It seems to me that this very capacity of evolution to form complex whole systems is happening within our social and spiritual systems.
What does this mean for us as individuals, groups, and projects? It means that every encounter, every connection, no matter how spontaneous or “accidental” it may appear, carries greater meaning and purpose, if we but notice. Chance decreases. Choice increases. The design of evolution is made apparent through our own passion to create, connect and evolve.
Each of these connections offers us an opportunity to experience the “fusion of genius,” that is, joining genius to give birth to the fuller potential self and to our work in the world. Nature put sexual attraction in the system to get us to join genes to have the babies. Now, that same power of attraction is lifting us toward joining genius to cocreate. And it feels so good!
I have been at several remarkable events recently, which I would like you to know about and get connected with. One was the International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles. The new news in this field is that both the Administrator of NASA, Mike Griffin, and the movement as a whole, have come out clearly for human settlement of space as the prime purpose of the space program now. This means that we can have an extended Earth/space/human environment. This step will eventually be as significant as when the first fish came out of the sea onto the dry land. The extraterrestrial field will become as important to our future as the biosphere was to the first animals that crawled out of the sea. Through them we gained eyes that see millions of miles, hands that reach to the stars, minds that can understand the cosmos, as Robert Zubrin, head of the Mars Society, put it in a recent speech as to "Why We Go into Space." We are literally being born as universal humans. There will be new forms of energy from space, new knowledge, new worlds, if we come together as a people to codesign a new evolutionary agenda for humanity. A Council for the Future has formed around this vision and purpose, with leading space settlement advocates and technical experts. We plan to do a SYNCON in 2007 to begin the process of developing an Earth/Space/Human Development Agenda. It will require the genius of all of us. For further information on the Council, contact Steven Wolfe at Wolfesm@aol.com.
Then I went to another great event sponsored by Wisdom University and Jim Garrison called Sacred Activism. Over 800 people gathered in Seattle to focus on Paul Ray’s New Political Compass. Paul says that when we call together all new social movements we discover a “Wisdom Culture Paradigm” that an estimated 45% of voters are already for. The question was and is: What is the best mode of organizing and acting to establish the potency and direction of this movement of movements? It is clear that the movement itself has to demonstrate the dynamics of the “Wisdom Culture" or the Cocreative Society we are trying to build. It is not good enough to enter the adversarial role in reaction to what is wrong, thereby taking on the dynamics of that which we are opposing. The quest is for a new paradigm of social/spiritual organization that demonstrates the connectivity, cooperation, creativity and response-ability that our crisis demands. Jim reports that many cities are inviting the Sacred Activism conference to come to their region. A mass movement is stirring again. If you are interested in participating, contact Jim at https://www.wisdomuniversity.org/.
Barbara Fields, director of the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT) has developed a model of synergistic democracy for the Season for Non-Violence, where over 400 cities are self-organizing for this purpose. This could be helpful as to how to self organize.
Once again, I believe that the SYNCON process could also be vital in every one of the conferences. We can plant synergistic process wherever people of the Wisdom Culture gather, demonstrating what Ruth Benedict pointed out years ago: A “high synergy” society is peaceful and gentle. A low synergy society is hostile. It is necessary to develop high synergy -- win, win, win -- social processes to move our culture through these crises.
Along these lines, my colleague John Zwerver, is guiding a SYNCON-type process in New Orleans with many talented facilitators. New Orleans is an example of what we can expect as weather conditions worsen and cities are faced with rising seas. More on this to follow. If you are interested in the forthcoming SYNCON training, contact John Zwerver at jzwer@aol.com.
Last but certainly not least, I just returned from Hawaii for the Gateway to Conscious Evolution annual gathering. This is our educational program guided by Teresa Collins. Teresa and her partner Marshall Lefferts and the Gateway Guides assembled a magnificent process to experience the personal, planetary, evolutionary, and galactic perspectives on our situation. Nassim Haramein, the pioneering physicist who is said to be a young Einstein, is working toward a unified field theory. Nassim was speaking along with me and Jon Symes from London. ... This will cause ever-greater chaos on Earth. Through the chaos the innovations and radical technological breakthroughs now developing, will be brought forth, since the current system will not be able to handle the crises.
On another note, I want you to know that you can still enroll with Mary Manin Morrissey and me in the Seven Codes to Self Evolution, which starts on July 5. It will carry you through the development path as a universal human. See below in my calendar where Mary and I will be speaking together this coming week. You can also listen to an archived teleconference with Mary and myself by going to http://www.lifesoulutions.com. Use the menu to log onto "7 Codes Of Self Evolution."
And I invite you to register for the Evolutionary Women Retreat being held in Santa Barbara this August. This is the call for women who know that within themselves a new feminine authentic self is emerging. We are called to serve as guides and leaders in partnership with evolutionary men for the transformation of the world.
In conclusion, I am sorry to have to report that I will be unable to attend Wisdom University's Chartres Mystery School in July due to health issues. But my student/colleagues, Teresa Collins and Carolyn Anderson will be taking my place and speaking on the theme of the developmental path of the universal human, and the universal self communion.
I send all my love and blessings to you,
Barbara
