Aurelio, an Aurovilian friend and member of the Verite community, just stopped by the online connection desk at Verite's Integral Learning Center, where I'm now posting this article.
He said that he was unexpectedly leaving tonight for South Africa, where a new Auroville community is forming. Fortunately, he'll be back on April 20, so I'll be able to see him before I leave for California on April 26. He gave me their new website, located at:
http://www.auroville-africa.org/index.html .
It sounds like another remarkable connection happening between Auroville and the world. Here's the introduction to the website:

Building Bridges between Auroville and Africa
A F R I C A – A U R O V I L L E – A V I M E E T I N G
Cape Town, 17 - 26 March 2006
The Miracle of Transformation
"Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to
live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.
The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity.
"Auroville, an emerging city on South India’s Coromandel Coast, with about 2000 residents from
40 countries, is internationally recognised as an ongoing experiment in human unity in diversity,
and in sustainable living. On the basis of a broad evolutionary vision, new ways are constantly
explored to meet the environmental, economic, cultural, social and spiritual needs of mankind
for the 21st century."
The first-ever Auroville meeting on African soil, to take place in Cape Town in March 2006, is
greeted with enthusiasm from many sides. It promises to bring together dedicated and
experienced individuals, groups and organisations from Auroville and Africa, in an eventful
gathering that will encourage multiple exchanges and collaborations in ongoing projects.
A broad-based introduction to Africa, primarily through South Africa, and to Auroville will be
offered through presentations, discussions, interactive workshops and more. Interaction with
South Africans and Africans, excursions to places like Table Mountain, Robben Island,
townships, community projects, and cultural events will allow guest participants to get in
touch with essential aspects of the country's life and spirit. Africa and Auroville have much to
offer to each other and to share their rich experiences and aspirations.
Roads to Freedom: Sri Aurobindo, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela
By the way, Aurelio is a remarkable musician. He's been working for years with a group of Tamil youth who have been learning together to play and build traditional Indian musical instruments, and even have begun to invent new ones.
They've been presenting their first public concerts during the past few months and their beautiful music and spiritual energy have been astounding. Some of the sounds of their new instruments (e.g. "singing stones") are powerful and deeply evocative of human and perhaps non-human communities in deep time, sounding like songs out of our distant past and even possible futures.
